Mission

Mission is high on DBC's agenda. We believe in a God who cares for all the peoples of the world, so we want a concern for the whole world to be part of our life as His church.

At DBC we encourage our members to get involved in mission at both a local and global level. Some members are employed or serve as volunteers in local Christian work and organisations. Some have spent time with Christian organisations on projects in other countries.

We have special links with some missionaries working full-time overseas and this helps to
make global mission more personal and real to us.

Currently our links are:

Brian and Jackie Chilvers are with BMS in N'Djamera which is the capital of Chad. They are nurses working at Guinebor 2 Hospital, Chad. Brian assesses and treats patients as well as supporting the Chadian staff to develop their skills. Jackie supports the work in vaccinations and malnutrition and hopes to further develop community health in the area.

Wit and Helen Boondeekhun are church planting in Thailand with BMS. They have planted a church in Wang Daeng and are starting again in the rural town of Tao Hai about 10 miles from Wang Daeng. Helen will teach English at the local school and they are looking for other ways to serve the people.

As we have built our new church building we have also contributed to our Supporting Other Churches Fund with the intention of helping with the construction of other churches.

So far we have helped:

Nueva Esperanza (Living Hope) Church in Potosi, Bolivia in the construction of their new church building. Our link has been through Louis and Maribel Woodley who work with Latin Link and help various groups of Christians to grow in their faith and witness.

Agbo Church, Nigeria who needed a roof for their new church building.

Tek Ura Project which is on the outskirts of Tirana, Albania and has a variety of
ministries to support some of the most vulnerable people, and through this to gather them
into a community of faith.

Besides going out into the world ourselves, and praying for missionaries and the people they serve, another way in which we can show God's love is by donating money, and each year we give part of the income of the church to various mission organisations and projects. Presently, we regularly give to BMS World Mission, BU Home Mission, Hope4, Latin Link, Rugby Foodbank, Gift of Years and Angel Tree. We also have special collections for other causes, such as the Teams4u shoe box appeal, and occasional disaster appeals.

Our aims as a church in mission include:

  • ensuring that mission remains high on the church agenda so that as a church we will be aware of local, national, and world issues

  • encouraging and challenging the congregation in mission so that each person will consider their mission activities through prayer, giving and going

  • broadening our understanding of mission so that DBC could be described as a missionary congregation

  • co-operating with the Rugby, Daventry and Wolston Baptist Churches in mission initiatives and in planning events that stimulate interest in mission
